Malaysia joins international community in condemning Sri Lanka bombing

KUALA LUMPUR, April 21 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia joined the international community in condemning the multiple blasts which shook Sri Lanka on Sunday, calling the attack a barbaric crime.

In a statement, the Malaysian Foreign Ministry also advised Malaysian nationals in Sri Lanka to exercise caution.

"Malaysia strongly condemns the attack and hopes that those responsible for this barbaric crime be brought to justice. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and families affected."

"Malaysians in the vicinity of the area are advised to exercise caution, and monitor the latest developments from local news as well as local authorities," the statement said.

Meanwhile, several cabinet ministers issued statements condemning the attacks and offering condolences.

Malaysian Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali said "We strongly condemn these senseless attacks and call for swift action to bring the perpetrators to justice," he said.

Malaysian Land and Natural Resources Minister Xavier Jayakumar also called for action against the "senseless and brutal attack."

"Together with my fellow cabinet members in the Malaysian government, I would like to express condemnation in the strongest terms against such senseless and brutal attacks aimed at the masses in light of today's religious occasion," he said.

Malaysian Primary Industries Minister Teresa Kok expressed condolences for the victims on her Facebook page, saying it was a "sad day for Sri Lanka."

The death toll from the multiple blasts has risen to 192, while about 500 people were injured, according to reports reaching here.

No group has claimed responsibility for the blasts.
