MEXICO CITY, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- Second-half goals from Andre-Pierre Gignac and Angel Correa guided Tigres UANL to a 2-0 home win over Tijuana in Mexico's Liga MX on Saturday.
Former France international striker Gignac opened the scoring just after the hour, capitalizing on chaotic defending to dribble into the area and calmly slot his shot into the far corner.
Argentine winger Correa doubled the lead by combining with compatriot Juan Brunetta and side-footing home in the 74th minute.
The visitors suffered another blow in the 86th minute when Mourad El Ghezouani was shown a second yellow card for a bad challenge on Javier Aquino.
"We have managed to put together some good results and we're in good shape," Brunetta said after the match. "Now it's time to rest and start preparing for the derby [against Monterrey next Saturday]."
The result leaves Tigres second with 32 points, behind Toluca on goal difference, while Tijuana sit seventh in the 18-team standings, 11 points further back. ■
