RIO DE JANEIRO, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- A first-half goal from Breno Lopes fired Fortaleza to a 1-0 home win over title challengers Flamengo in Brazil's Serie A on Saturday.
Lopes put his side ahead in the 12th minute by surging clear on the counterattack and sending a low 25-yard drive into the far corner.
Flamengo controlled more than two-thirds of the possession but failed to find a way past the hosts' stubborn defense.
Despite the victory, Fortaleza remained in the relegation zone with 27 points from 29 games while Flamengo sit second with 61 points, behind leaders Palmeiras by virtue of having won fewer games.
Elsewhere in Brazil's Serie A on Saturday, Mirassol won 2-1 at Sport, Fluminense prevailed 1-0 at home to Internacional, Corinthians secured a 1-0 away win over Vitoria and Atletico Mineiro edged Ceara 1-0 at home. ■
